The Molecular Biology Minor, offered cooperatively by the Departments of Biology, Chemistry, and Biochemistry, and Microbiology, enables you to pursue in depth a multidisciplinary study of biological phenomena at the molecular level.
It provides a strong foundation for those planning careers in biotechnology industries or advanced work at the graduate level. (18 semester hours)
ELIGIBILITY
A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students can declare the minor at either the BIO, CHM, or MBI offices in order to get a transcript notation.
LABORATORY REQUIREMENT
One laboratory course (BIO/CHM/MBI 424, BIO 464, CHM 438, or MBI 465) is needed to complete this minor or earn at least two credits of departmentally approved directed research in molecular biology.
Students conducting directed research in molecular biology must have their proposed project evaluated by the Molecular Biology Minor advising committee at the start of their research, at least one semester before graduation. To fulfill the advanced laboratory requirement, students must then submit their research products and receive formal approval from the committee upon completion. Contact the Molecular Biology Minor advisor for details.
