Teach Reading in Grades K-12

A Reading Endorsement Certificate can be added to a valid Ohio teaching license upon successful completion of required graduate-level reading education courses and passing the OAE Reading subtest l-038 and OAE Reading subtest ll-039 (see www.oh.nesinc.com for registering, preparation, etc.)

Our endorsement certificate provides the coursework necessary for a teacher to instruct reading in grades K-12 in the state of Ohio.

Curriculum and Courses

This 5-course, 16-credit hour endorsement certificate enables a teacher to teach reading in grades K-12 in the State of Ohio. Upon passing the tests you will also need to complete the application to add the Reading endorsement as a second teaching field. The application is at www.oh.nesinc.com.

  • EDT 603: Language, Literacy and Culture
  • EDT 632: Literacy Assessment and Instruction
  • EDT 635: Clinical Literacy Practicum
  • EDT 642: Phonics and Reading Improvement for the Reading Teacher
  • EDT 646: Reading and Writing in Content Areas

Admissions Requirements

Our endorsement certificate program is available to current and prospective graduate degree program students. Prospective students who are not seeking a Miami degree may also apply. Current students apply via our Graduate Certificate Form. All other applicants apply for admission to the program via the Endorsement Certificate application.

Applicants will submit a statement of purpose and copies of all college transcripts along with the $20 application fee.
