Sociology is the study of human groups. Sociologists seek to understand the forces that influence human behavior, social change, and social problems. You’ll examine and question the dominant relationships, processes, and structures of social life. This major easily pairs with minors in Applied Sociological Research, Criminology, or Gerontology.

Several options exist for the sociology student at Miami. The basic major in sociology emphasizes exposure to a wide range of topics rather than a specialized area of concentration. Students in this program usually seek employment in government or business. Some go on to graduate school in sociology or a related discipline.

The vast majority of Miami graduates with a bachelor's degree in sociology find work in business and industry in such areas as employment counseling, market research, program planning, rehabilitation counseling, personnel management, labor relations, human services, and health planning.
