Miami's TESOL Endorsement Certificate (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) prepares PK-12 educators to work effectively with English language learners. Our courses provide real-world understanding and practical strategies to address the linguistic, cultural, and academic issues facing English language learners and their teachers in schools.

Curriculum and Courses

Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) Undergraduate Endorsement Certificate provides undergraduate teacher licensure candidates the knowledge, skills, and experiences that will prepare them to meet the challenges of English language learners in their classrooms. The TESOL endorsement consists of a three-course focus sequence, and a field-based teaching practicum experience with English learners in the schools. Open to all teacher licensure majors.

  • TCE 221: TESOL in PK-12 Sociocultural Contexts and Policy (Fall and Spring semesters)
  • TCE 454/554: TESOL in PK-12 Instructional Theory and Practice(Fall and Spring semesters)
  • TCE 425: TESOL in PK-12 English Literacy Development (Spring semester only)
  • TCE 418: TESOL in PK-12 Practicum (Fall and Spring semesters)

Additional Opportunities

  • Online classes

    In-service teachers can add the graduate TESOL endorsement in one calendar year by taking mostly online courses and working with students in their own classrooms or school.

  • TEAM Scholarship

    The Teacher Education Access at Miami (TEAM) Scholarship provides a discount on graduate tuition and fees for Ohio PreK-12 Educators.

    Through the Department of Education ¡PELEA! Fight! grant, Miami University provides scholarships to teachers in Cincinnati Public and other schools served by the Hamilton County Educational Services Center. Scholarships are awarded through an application process.
