More Than Just Accounting
Our Master of Accountancy, MAcc, program is more than just accounting—it is designed to help students develop soft skills and project management capabilities designed to accelerate their careers. Frequent interactions with faculty, executives and high achieving peers will help you develop a lifetime career network.
In addition, our curriculum provides a gateway to a diverse array of dynamic careers beyond tax and assurance services. Our graduates have obtained jobs in business risk services, fraud investigation, transaction advisory services, systems and process assurance and investment banking.
The Master of Accountancy program has two tracks: a 3+1 Combined program where Miami University students can earn both a bachelor’s and masters degree in four years, or a traditional one-year program that students begin after completing an undergraduate degree.

3+1 Combined Accountancy Program
The combined Bachelor’s and Master’s Accountancy program offers high-achieving students a unique and accelerated path to graduation, allowing them to earn both their bachelor’s and master’s degrees in Accountancy while gaining the advanced skills and knowledge necessary for a successful career.
Students planning to take the CPA exam in Ohio and in most other states are required to have 150 hours of education with at least a bachelor’s degree. This requires additional education beyond the requirements for a bachelor’s degree from Miami.
After completing the program, you are qualified to sit for the CPA examination in the state of Ohio and most other states.

Traditional MAcc Program
Students complete the program in two semesters, carrying a 15-credit-hour load each semester. This schedule allows students to pursue additional opportunities in both the winter and summer terms, such as study abroad, travel, or preparing for and taking the CPA exam.
Our program is designed for full-time students, and all students enter the program in the fall semester. We do not have a part-time program, nor do we offer courses on evenings or weekends.

- 64 credit hours
- You will need to complete all Miami Plan, business core, and sophomore and junior-level accountancy coursework by the end of your third year (or fourth) to be eligible to enroll in the MAcc curriculum in your fourth year. This takes careful planning, so please contact the MAcc Program as soon as possible if you are considering the combined degree program.
The fourth year of study for students in the combined program will be the full (30 semester hours) MAcc curriculum; as such, the Department of Accountancy will treat applicants to the combined program as “early admit” candidates. Candidates must be able to be full-time students during the fourth year.
Note: The MAcc curriculum may include ACC 522, ACC 553, and/or a Capstone course for combined degree candidates. These courses can also be used to satisfy undergraduate degree requirements.
-
Students in a combined program will remain as undergraduates until they apply for graduation or submit a request to the Graduate School to have their classification changed from undergraduate to graduate. Students must have completed a minimum of 124 hours to be classified as a graduate student (note: this change in classification will affect eligibility for financial aid).
Students must receive their bachelor’s degree at least one term prior to completing their master’s degree. Upon receiving the bachelor’s degree, students will automatically be classified as graduate students.
Students in the combined program can count up to four hours of graduate coursework toward their bachelor’s degree with permission of the appropriate advisor(s) and dean(s) or their designee(s). Those hours can also count toward the completion of their master’s degree. For B.S./MAcc candidates, the senior-level accountancy coursework, and the undergraduate Senior/FSB Capstone requirement can be satisfied with MAcc coursework.
Note: Students must earn at least 120 hours of undergraduate coursework and at least 30 hours of graduate coursework.

If I e-mail you my profile (GMAT, GPA, TOEFL, etc.) can you evaluate my chances of admission?
Like many top graduate business programs in the U.S., we will review all parts of your application before making a decision. Unfortunately, we are not able to evaluate your profile before a complete application is submitted.
Do you accept students with non-accounting undergraduate degrees?
Yes. While our program is designed for students with the equivalent of Miami University’s undergraduate degree in accountancy, students who hold undergraduate degrees in another business discipline may become eligible for our program by completing a few prerequisite courses.
Additional Opportunities
We offer select MAcc students the opportunity to teach the discussion sections of our introductory-level accounting classes, and the response from both our MAcc instructors and the undergraduates enrolled in those courses continues to be overwhelmingly positive. Through this exciting opportunity, you will build self-confidence, perfect your presentation and public speaking skills, and brush up on introductory accounting topics (handy for when you begin your career).
Fellowship, Graduate Assistantships, and Scholarship Info
