Exploring Humanity Through Archaeology
The Archaeology minor at Miami University offers students an in-depth, hands-on introduction to the study of the human past through the analysis and preservation of material culture. This 18–credit hour, transdisciplinary program integrates archaeological theory, scientific and experimental research methods, and critical thinking to examine the deep and diverse histories of human communities around the world. Students develop practical skills in archaeological field and laboratory techniques, material culture analysis, and cultural heritage management while learning to apply ethical guidelines that respect descendant communities, shared human heritage, and human–environment interactions. Ideal as a complement to majors across the sciences, social sciences, humanities, and pre-professional programs, the Archaeology minor at Miami University prepares students to thoughtfully interpret the past and address real-world archaeological and cultural resource challenges from a global perspective.
