What is Computational Linguistics?
Computational linguistics is an interdisciplinary field. It uses linguistics tools to analyze how machines process language and uses computational tools to investigate how humans process language.
Where do Computational Linguists Work?
This certificate will prepare you for jobs in technology and experience design. These careers may involve designing better translators, voice activated devices such as smart speakers, or working with AI enhanced technology.
Program Requirements
Coursework
A minimum of 13-17 credit-hours of coursework.
Core certificate courses:
- LIN 201: Introduction to Linguistics
- LIN 210F: Special Topics in Language Awareness – Computational Linguistics
- MTH 433: Applied Linear Algebra or LIN 460: Capstone in Linguistics
Select one of the following options:
- Option 1 – MTH 133: Mathematical Foundations of Data Analytics
- Option 2 – MTH 141: Business Calculus or MTH 151: Calculus
And at least one of the following courses:
- MTH 222: Introduction to Linear Algebra
- MTH 231: Elements of Discrete Mathematics
- MTH 246: Linear Algebra and Differential Equations for Engineers
