Study Crime and the Criminal Justice System
The Criminology Minor focuses on the social-scientific study of crime and the criminal justice system, including juvenile and adult criminal behavior, policing, the criminal and civil courts, and corrections.
You will investigate how to apply the sociological perspective in relation to crime and criminal law; examine adult and juvenile offending; critically evaluate the role of the criminal justice system as well as criminal justice actors and institutions (e.g., law enforcement, corrections); and demonstrate the use of the social scientific method to study crime.
A crucial element of this minor is the completion of an internship in an agency, program, or organization within the criminal justice system. Open to all majors. (20-50 semester hours)
ELIGIBILITY
With the exception of the fieldwork, courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students planning to take this minor should consult with the chief departmental adviser.
