The Exploratory Studies program at Miami University guides students through a structured academic discovery process over one to four semesters. This program is designed to help you make well-informed decisions about your undergraduate major and future career path.
Through personalized support, professional academic advisors provide one-on-one guidance aligned with your interests, values, skills, and personality traits. You’ll explore academic options, identify strengths, and develop a clear plan for declaring a major with confidence.
Start College Without Declaring a Major
You don’t need to choose a specific major before beginning your college experience. The Exploratory Studies program is ideal for students who:
- Were not directly admitted to a specific academic program
- Are unsure which academic field they want to pursue
- Want to explore multiple majors before committing
Curriculum and Courses
In partnership with your success navigator, you will select coursework through which you can explore majors that align with your interests while also satisfying the requirements of the Miami Plan, a flexible core curriculum that students in all majors complete.
