Explore the Human Experience
The Humanities Engagement certificate at Miami University is designed for undergraduate degree-seeking students of all majors who want to deepen their education through the humanities. The program helps students research, write, and think critically about the most pressing human, cultural, and global issues of the twenty-first century, while exploring interdisciplinary themes that connect history, literature, philosophy, ethics, and culture.
Through humanities coursework and participation in Miami University’s Humanities Center programs and events, students develop essential professional skills such as critical thinking, communication, research, and analytical reasoning. Humanities Engagement allows students to apply humanities perspectives to their major field of study, strengthening academic focus and preparing them for a wide range of careers or graduate study.
Miami University’s Humanities Engagement certificate requires a minimum 12 credit hours and can be paired with any major.
Courses and Curriculum
A minimum of 12 credit-hours of coursework in the humanities hosted by at least two different departments, with a minimum GPA of 2.5. Study abroad courses offered by Miami University may count.
