The Introduction to the Science of Addiction Microcredential equips you with the knowledge to understand how an individual’s biological and psychological systems influence addiction. You’ll learn the brain mechanisms involved in the physiological and psychological processes of addictive behaviors and substance use disorder, as well as sleep and biological rhythms, emotion, and learning and memory. Then, you will familiarize yourself with the history of drug use, how substances impact the brain, and how substance use disorder may be prevented and treated. You will also leave understanding how to clearly and effectively communicate recent research on aspects of addiction science.
This is a stackable Microcredential; to earn this credential, the Introduction to Addiction Science Pathway must be successfully completed with a C- or higher, which includes the following courses:
- PSY 251 – Introduction to Biopsychology (3)
- PSS 218 – Introduction to Research Design and Analysis (4)
- PSS 312 – Drugs and Behavior (3)
These courses are available in Online Asynchronous format. There is no need to come to campus.
