Advancing Mental Health Care for Individuals, Families, and Communities
The Psychiatric–Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) MSN track at Miami University prepares registered nurses for advanced practice, providing evidence-based mental health care across the lifespan. This fully online program emphasizes clinical excellence, integrated care, and the development of advanced assessment, diagnostic, psychopharmacologic, and nonpharmacologic management skills. Graduates are prepared to lead in diverse practice settings and to meet national certification and accreditation standards for advanced psychiatric nursing practice.

Admission Criteria
Application Eligibility Criteria
- Must be a resident of Ohio, Illinois, Indiana, or Kentucky.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or a U.S. permanent resident.
- BSN from an ACEN or CCNE-accredited nursing school by start of MSN program.
- A cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 on a 4.0 scale for graduate coursework.
- A current, unencumbered Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the state you are practicing in before the start of the MSN program.
- Eligibility to obtain an active RN license in any other state is required for clinical experiences.
Note: NP students must have completed 1,000 hours of RN clinical experience before starting their first clinical/practicum course (offered in the first summer session of the program for full-time students).
Application Instructions
- Complete the NursingCAS application. Note that NursingCAS Supporting Materials section of the application is not required for the Miami DNP application. Miami Program Requirements are required, including license upload, CV, and three references.
- Request your official transcripts from all US institutions attended to be sent to NursingCAS.
- Upload a current CV or resume to NursingCAS.
- Request two professional references through the NursingCAS recommender portal. (2 professional and 1 academic preferred).
