Understand and Analyze Modern Economies
The Quantitative Economics B.S. major at Miami University provides students with hands-on experience using simulations and data-driven methods to test economic theories and make informed predictions. This program prepares students for careers in analytics, finance, policy, and economic research.
Economics focuses on how resources are allocated for the production, distribution, and consumption of goods and services. Students study key issues such as inflation, unemployment, labor markets, taxation, international trade, and urban and environmental economics, gaining the quantitative skills needed to analyze real-world economic challenges in Ohio and beyond.
Curriculum and Courses
Our program enables students to undertake a more rigorous and quantitative course of study, while still completing their degree work in four years. Additional required courses combined with more advanced mathematics and statistics requirements are an ideal preparation for graduate training in economics, as well as jobs in business, industry and government that require the more technical tools of economic theory and econometrics. A sample of courses is listed below:
- ECO 201 Principles of Microeconomics
- ECO 202 Principles of Macroeconomics
- ECO 311 Examining Economic Data and Models
- ECO 414 Mathematical Economics
- ISA 444 Business Forecasting
- MTH 222 Introduction to Linear Algebra
Combined Economics B.A./M.A. Degree Program
The combined bachelor’s–master’s program lets highly qualified students pursue both the Quantitive Economics, B.S. and the Economics M.A. degrees concurrently. Students interested in this option should consult the program’s graduate director early, as it requires advance planning.
