The Statistical Methods minor at Miami University builds on foundational concepts from introductory statistics, including estimation and hypothesis testing. Through advanced coursework, students study key statistical methods such as regression analysis and experimental design, with additional options in nonparametric statistics, quality control, and sampling methods—developing analytical and data-driven skills valued across many fields.
Eligibility
This minor is not available to students majoring in mathematics, statistics, or mathematics and statistics. To complete the minor in statistical methods, you must earn at least 18 semester hours with at least a 2.00 GPA. A course taken on a credit/no credit basis does not apply toward the minor.
Courses and Curriculum
This minor builds on introductory statistics with advanced study in estimation, hypothesis testing, regression analysis, and experimental design. Students may also explore topics such as data visualization, sampling methods, nonparametric statistics, quality control, and complete a statistics capstone experience.
After completing two required Statistics courses, elective hours can be chosen from a list of courses such as:
- STA 333 Nonparametric Statistics
- STA 402 Statistical Programming
- STA 432 Sampling Design and Analysis
- MTH 141 Business Calculus
- PSY 294 Writing and Research Methods in Psychology
A capstone experience in statistics may also be included as part of this minor.
