Discover American Life, Past and Present
The American Studies minor at Miami University provides an interdisciplinary introduction to American culture, history, and society, exploring diverse aspects of American life—past and present. Through courses in American Studies and a wide range of American-focused topics, students engage with perspectives from departments such as anthropology, art, architecture and interior design, comparative religion, English, history, and political science. This flexible minor encourages critical thinking and cultural analysis while complementing many majors across the liberal arts and social sciences.
Open to all majors. (18 semester hours)
Eligibility
A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students planning to take this minor should consult with the lead program advisor.
Courses and Curriculum
The American Studies minor has a flexible curriculum with one required course (AMS 205.) The remaining 15 hours are selected from a list of upper level American Studies (AMS) and History (HST) courses.
