Prepare for a Risk Assessment Career
The Actuarial Science minor prepares students for a potential career as an actuary—a professional who analyzes data to assess, model, and manage financial risk in industries such as insurance, finance, healthcare, and consulting.
This minor provides a strong foundation in probability, statistics, and mathematical modeling, aligning closely with the skills tested on professional actuarial exams. Courses in the Actuarial Science minor may also be applied toward requirements in related majors, allowing students to maximize academic flexibility.
Because actuarial science is a highly quantitative field, the minor includes extensive prerequisites. Most students pursuing this minor major in mathematics or statistics.
The Actuarial Science minor requires 28 credit hours.
Eligibility
A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students planning to take this minor should consult with the lead departmental adviser.
