Animate from Clay to Pixel!
The Animation Minor is designed to introduce students to the fundamental concepts and processes of animation. Students will explore a wide range of media and processes of animation; learn the animation workflow from storyboarding to animating and editing; and develop technical proficiency, critical thinking skills, and sensibility as multimedia composers, moving image artists, and storytellers.
Eligibility
A minimum 2.75 GPA is required for admittance to the minor.
Animation Curriculum and Courses
Through a wide selection of elective classes in Studio Art, Game Design, Music, Film Studies, and Creative Writing, students will broaden their knowledge and career possibilities. At least 18 semester credit hours of coursework are required for the minor. Below is a sample of courses for the minor:

Professional Practice
“Unfolding Stories” biennial, initiated in fall 2025, is an interdisciplinary collaborative/collective research and professional practice opportunity.

Funding Opportunities
Students participating in the “Unfolding Stories” have the opportunity to apply for the MU Undergraduate Research Grant and other competitive research grants in the field of visual art and animation under individualized research mentorship.

Advanced Research
Undergraduate students engage in in-depth research about the Richard and Carole Cocks Art Museum collection and produce short animations to be included in exhibition and projection mapping events as part of significant international venues such as FotoFocus and Blink Festival.

Professional Outreach Activities
Students become familiar with the diverse range of professional practices in animation and contemporary visual art through field trips to international art centers (e.g., a Field Trip to NYC), participation in international animation festivals, and guest animators/artists talks and studio visits.
