Transform Your Teaching Journey
The Certificate in College Teaching is designed to equip you with the pedagogical skills necessary to become an effective teacher-scholar. Through mentorship and coursework, you will develop expertise in your discipline, interdisciplinary teaching, and educational theory.
Curriculum and Courses
The Certificate in College Teaching consists of a variety of coursework and experiences guided by a student’s mentor. Students will select a mentor and develop a plan of study that addresses three major components: discipline-specific teaching experience/study, interdisciplinary pedagogy, and theory.

- EDL 621 Ethics and Values in Education
- PSY 551 Cognitive Neuroscience
- EDP 607 Educational Measurement and Evaluation
Admissions Requirements
Admission to our graduate certificate in College Teaching is offered to both current Miami University graduate students interested in adding the credential to their degree programs, as well as graduate students enrolled at other universities who wish to concurrently pursue our certificate and their home institution’s degree.
Note: Please review the application process carefully, as it differs by student status.
Current Miami Graduate Students
Current Miami graduate students should submit the certificate application form. These applicants will identify and provide a faculty mentor’s name as well as list and describe the applicant’s teaching experience. Guidelines are provided to assist with completing the Graduate Certificate Form. Miami students may apply for admission in the fall and spring semesters.
New Miami Graduate Students
New Miami students will submit the graduate certificate application and be sure to select “Graduate Certificate” on page 1 of the application. Required supplemental materials include a personal statement and identifying a faculty or director-level support person on the application. The application fee is $20.
The personal statement should include:
- Your motivation for applying to this program,
- How this program aligns with your short and long-term career goals, and
- Your current and/or previous teaching experiences in higher education (if applicable).
