This certificate equips you with a strong foundation in financial-decision making, risk management, and strategic investment analysis. Learn to evaluate financial statements, manage risk, and understand mergers and acquisition in order to drive organizational growth and profitability.
Curriculum and Courses
This flexible, three-course certificate can be completed independently or as part of an MBA degree. After completing the certificate, if you decide to continue your business studies, completed certificate courses can count toward your MBA degree.
Students can choose to take 3 courses fully online, in person at our West Chester location, or a combination of both. Each course is 3 credit hours.

ACC 611 – Accounting for Managers
- Demonstrate proficiency in basic financial, tax and managerial accounting skills necessary to be an effective manager and improve internal business decisions
- Integrate accounting knowledge and knowledge from other business disciplines to enhance ability to solve both structured and unstructured accounting and related business problems
- Develop research and quantitative skills that facilitate decision making and communicate accounting implications within professional contexts
- Identify accounting and related business ethical solutions to promote long-term value creation at organizations through a stakeholder management framework that integrates integrity, leadership, and transparency
BUS – 647 Business Risk Management
- Understand how risk and return relate to each other for an organization through setting a risk appetite and viewing business as a portfolio of risks and opportunities managed around the appetite to achieve desired returns
- Examine the role C-Suite and Board of Directors to establish strategies to pursue organizational missions and the role of business processes in managing associated strategic risks
- Learn crisis management as an increasingly critical and distinct part of business risk management
- Apply risk management skills to specific key business processes: research and development, human resource management, information technology, financial management, supply chain management, and brand and image delivery.
FIN 625 – Managerial Finance
- Gain perspectives of core finance concepts used by non-finance corporate managers or reasonably sophisticated investors
- Understand financial statement analysis and core concepts associated with time value of money, debt and equity, and risk and return
- Develop problem-solving skills in contexts that include capital budgeting, cost of capital, and capital structure
- Practice fundamental financial skills to be able to apply them in day-to-day activities
BUS 665 – Business Valuation
- Examine the factors that influence the value of a business
- Learn data-driven valuation techniques used in corporate finance, including mergers and acquisitions, and initial public offerings
- Develop skills for in-depth firm and industry analyses (i.e., due diligence), strategic positioning, and valuation
- Practice communicating results to external constituencies
