The Bachelor of Science in Education degree with an Integrated Science Education, B.S., major provides graduates with the opportunity to teach in 7th- to 12th-grade schools in all the major science disciplines (biology, chemistry, earth science, and physics) while concentrating in one science area.
This degree emphasizes the latest, exemplary science teaching strategies, including inquiry-based learning, project-based learning, problem-based learning, cooperative learning, student-centered assessments, and claim-evidence-reasoning methods. You will be exposed to state-of-the-art teaching methods and science/math courses, as well as teaching in diverse settings, taking English Language Learner (ELL) methods, experiencing elective Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Education methods, and engaging in real-world scientific research as part of your program.
Integrated Science Education Curriculum and Courses
Miami University’s Teaching, Curriculum, and Educational Inquiry department prepares future science teachers who have a developing passion for the skill and art of teaching, a commitment to educational equity, and a heart for students. We also provide courses that teach you how to teach students with special needs.
The Integrated Science Education major requires a series of courses in the major science area of your choice, as well as a solid background in the other science areas. You’ll gain many hours of actual scientific research experience to understand the how and whys of doing science. Some of the courses you will take in this major include:
