Interdisciplinary Introduction to Naval Service
Open to students from all majors, the Naval Science Minor at Miami University introduces you to the broad field of naval service while providing in-depth insight into the organization, leadership, and operations of the United States Navy and Marine Corps. Through coursework in the physical and social sciences, formal reasoning, and computer science, students build analytical, technical, and leadership skills valuable for military service, public service, and civilian careers.
The minor requires 23 semester hours.
Eligibility
A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students planning to take this minor should consult with the lead departmental adviser.
Courses and Curriculum
Students take a core sequence of Naval Science (NSC) courses with the remainder of the hours from courses such as:
- CSE 151 – Computers, Computer Science, and Society
- HST 222 – U.S. Foreign Relations Since 1898
- NSC 303 – Naval Ship Systems I
- NSC 411 – Fundamentals of Maneuver Warfare
- POL 376 – U.S. National Security Policy
