Explore Global Issues
Diplomacy and Global Politics, B.A. at Miami University introduces students to diplomacy, international relations, and comparative politics, providing a strong foundation in foreign and domestic security policy, international economic relations, and global cultures. Students gain the knowledge and analytical skills needed to understand how governments, institutions, and societies interact in an increasingly interconnected world.
In this major, you will examine global political issues, international conflicts, and cross-border challenges, preparing you for careers in diplomacy, global policy, international organizations, and public service.

Diplomacy and Global Politics, B.A. Learning Outcomes
- Define and explain political science concepts, theories and approaches;
- Demonstrate skill in evidence-based reasoning from identifying the appropriate data or evidence necessary to construct a convincing argument to constructing and communicating that argument;
- Identify the appropriate methodology, design and analysis for a given problem and understand the ethical components of research choices;
- Apply political science knowledge to contemporary political issues and problems and be able to identify and evaluate alternative political science-based solutions;
- Formulate, propose and advocate possibilities for positive change in democratic society as engaged and informed citizens.

Inside Washington
Inside Washington provides students with a full-service internship experience. The program offers students professional advising during their internship search, a safe and convenient place to live in central D.C., extraordinary experiential learning experiences though small-group interaction with D.C. professionals, and guidance on how to leverage this experience for future success. Inside Washington is an ideal program for students of all majors because of the unique academic experience and internship opportunities in D.C.
Additional Opportunities in the Department of Political Science
Ohio Public Leaders Fellowship Program
The Ohio Public Leaders Fellowship Program offers Miami University students a hands-on, co-curricular experience exploring how state and local government operate. Selected students receive paid fellowships ($1,000–$2,500) and complete special projects with government, public, or nonprofit agencies across Ohio, benefiting both the host organizations and the fellows’ professional development. Supported by the OPL Advisory Board, faculty, and mentors, fellows typically complete their projects during the four-week Winter Term, with over 100 Miami students having participated.
Scholarships
The Department of Political Science awards several scholarships, prizes, and recognitions each year to honor outstanding students. Prizes reward exceptional past work or contest achievements, scholarships support tuition or research, and recognitions honor accomplishments without monetary awards. These awards are made possible through donor generosity. Each spring, the department hosts a ceremony celebrating recipients and recognizing students who have earned notable university and national honors, such as the Truman, Seasongood, and Fulbright fellowships.
