NASP-Accredited School Psychology Program
The 3-year graduate program prepares school psychologists to provide consultation, assessment, mental health, and intervention services for PK-12 grade schools and school children. School psychologists, in collaboration with others, promote learning environments in which all children can be helped to achieve their potential.
The combined Master’s/Educational Specialist program includes two years of full-time study on campus plus one full-time school year as an intern in a cooperating school district. A stipend is provided during the internship year (pending continued funding from the Ohio Department of Education and intern agreement to work in Ohio for a year after graduation). Curriculum and Courses
The Miami University School Psychology Program is grounded in practice and views the school psychologist as an active participant in developing the contexts within schools that promote healthy development of children. The program is three years in length: the first year is spent attaining educational and psychological foundations which are the bases for further in-depth skill development; the second year develops specific skills in the school psychology knowledge base and includes a strong emphasis on field experience; the third year is dedicated to a full-year internship in a school system, which allows practical application of students’ prior education and experience.
The program provides students an opportunity to develop consultation, assessment, counseling, and intervention skills. Students are trained in the scientist-practitioner tradition, with an orientation toward a problem-solving process, and an emphasis on practice guided by scientific knowledge. We provide cutting-edge coursework in the areas of Response to Intervention (RTI) as well as Evidence-Based Interventions (EBIs) for academic, behavioral, and mental health applications.
Field experiences are an integral part of the school psychology program. The School Psychology Program maintains active communication with over 75 local practitioners who introduce students to their school systems and provide mentoring through spending a day with students, highlighting exemplary programs in their districts, and being available to answer questions or discuss professional issues. Field experiences begin the first semester. A minimum of 120 hours of field contact is expected for each of the two practica field placements during the second year. The third year is a 1200+ hr full-time school psychology internship.

- Optional: Graduate Record Exam (GRE) score. Those who choose to take and submit scores for the General test, please request that your scores be sent directly to Miami University (code R1463) and indicate School Psychology as the department code name.

I believe that Miami’s graduate program in School Psychology truly builds a knowledge base that sets its students up for success. No matter what you have experience in previously, they ensure you have the foundations in psychology, education, research and more. The classes, along with field placements, are vital pieces to establishing knowledge but also allowing opportunities for observing and practicing. The opportunities for research and graduate assistantships is also a great part of Miami’s program.

Internship/Field Placement
Practicum involvement in school psychology (EDP 660) and counseling (EDP 654) each include a minimum of 120 school hours in the second year of the program. The third year of the program is a full-time school psychology internship, 1200+ hrs.
Research Opportunity
Students work in groups of 3-4 and are paired with a faculty member to serve as Research Advisor. Together the small group research experience will culminate in a presentation and/or publication. Students are also encouraged to engage in additional research with Program/Departmental faculty.
Graduate Assistantship Opportunities
Many of the 10-12 admitted School Psychology graduate students apply for and obtain a part- or full-time graduate assistantship position. GA positions assist students financially and offer meaningful work opportunities.
