Curriculum and Courses
A required introductory environmental science core course (IES 275), usually taken in the sophomore year, is typically team-taught by a biological scientist and an earth scientist and emphasizes the mix of scientific approaches to understanding environmental issues. Students take an advanced environmental science course (IES 431) as a synthesis experience, and for the practicum requirement take a field course, study abroad, or mentored independent study. Other courses in the social and natural sciences are used to complete the requirements of the co-major.
Graduates of this program typically find jobs in scientific areas, such as resource management or environmental protection for government, environmental consulting firms, industry, or non-profit organizations.
