Decode Food System Impacts
The Food Systems and Food Studies co-major at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio explores food and the complex journey it takes from farm to fork. In this interdisciplinary food systems program, you’ll examine how food is produced, distributed, and consumed—while gaining insight into the environmental, social, and economic forces that shape global and local food systems.
Through a combination of courses in agricultural ecology; food, nutrition, and health; and food, society, and culture, you’ll connect classroom learning with real-world experiences. This hands-on approach helps you develop a well-rounded understanding of food from biological, economic, political, cultural, and environmental perspectives—preparing you for careers in sustainability, agriculture, public health, policy, and food-related industries.
Curriculum and Courses
The Food Systems and Food Studies co-major is designed to complement a primary major, which provides significant depth and breadth in an academic discipline. Components of the curriculum are divided into foundational courses, interdisciplinary electives, and an internship.
