Unlocking the Power of Location by Applying Spatially Driven Technologies to Solve Tomorrow’s Global Challenges
The Department of Geography offers both Undergraduate and Graduate Certificates in GIScience (GIS and Remote Sensing), which give students the necessary technical skills and theory-based background to compete in the rapidly growing field of Geospatial Technology.
GISci is applied to problems in fields ranging from environmental science to urban planning to business decision-making. This certificate program builds qualifications for employment and/or further study in GIS and Remote Sensing.

Facts and Stats
What I would say is that the Miami GIS program set me up extremely well with the skills I needed to begin my career as an entry level GIS professional. By equipping me with skills in vector and raster data processing, remote sensing, and python I had the suite I needed to join a variety of industries and was able to hit the ground running as a graduate.

One of the hardest challenges a young GIS professional will face is understanding how to apply their skills in the real world. The Miami GIS program prepares students for this challenge by teaching GIS from a variety of practical perspectives – real-world client projects, syllabi that teach practical skills, and instructors with a wide range of experience. I ended up in Business, and although I never took a GIS in Business class, I was prepared to apply my skill set to any industry – including commercial real estate – because I was challenged by Miami’s GIS program.
