Explore Journalism in American Life
The Journalism minor at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio introduces students to the vital role journalism plays in American life and democratic society. In this journalism program, you’ll study how news media inform the public while gaining hands-on experience producing news reporting across digital, audio, video, and multimedia platforms.
Through engaging courses at Miami University, you’ll explore journalism ethics, media influence, and the impact of news coverage—while building practical, career-ready skills such as fact-checking, interviewing, news writing, and multimedia storytelling. The journalism minor prepares you for careers in media, communications, public relations, and any field that values clear, ethical, and effective communication.
This minor requires 18 hours.
Courses and Curriculum
Through coursework that blends theory and practice, students study the role of journalism in American democracy while developing hands-on skills in news reporting, ethics, interviewing, fact-checking, and multimedia storytelling. After completing four core courses, students select from a list of Media and Journalism electives.
