Unlock the Mind to Understand Behavior
Our Psychology, B.A., major explores the causes and consequences of human behavior: studying animal models with neuroscience techniques, how parenting and interpersonal relationships affect people’s well-being, how social contexts shape physical health, and more. You will gain practical experience with research, statistics, communication, and critical thinking.
Curriculum and Courses
Psychology majors at Miami receive sound liberal arts training, which is good preparation for many different careers or areas of graduate study. The core curriculum surveys the methods and findings of a variety of areas in psychology. You may individualize your program by choosing courses that are especially recommended for your career goals. This flexibility provides excellent training for careers in mental health, school psychology, social work, parole/probation, business, industry, civil service, government, and personnel work.
Research Opportunities
The Department of Psychology has numerous faculty-run research labs covering three sub-areas for research and teaching interests:
- Brain, Cognitive, and Developmental Sciences
- Works to understand the cognitive, neurobiological, and developmental mechanisms involved in perceiving, learning, remembering, understanding, reasoning, and acting in the environment
- Clinical Program
- Integrates science and practice with a focus on adult psychopathology, trauma, resilience, and child psychopathology in contexts such as families, schools, communities, and cultures
- Social Program

These labs offer undergraduates an opportunity to interact and learn from specialized faculty and graduate students.
