Expand Your World with a Russian Minor
Studying Russian, East European, and Eurasian Studies (REES) at Miami University offers more than just language proficiency—it’s your gateway to one of the most widely spoken languages in the world, used by over 250 million people across two continents and eleven time zones.
Through the REES Minor, you’ll gain access to scholarships, exclusive guest lectures, specialized courses, and study-abroad programs sponsored by the Havighurst Center for Russian and Post-Soviet Studies—the only center of its kind at a U.S. institution focused on undergraduate education.
Explore the rich cultural legacy of Russian literature, music, ballet, and art, while reading iconic works by Tolstoy, Dostoevsky, Pasternak, and Solzhenitsyn in their original language. Understand the deep global impact of Russia’s past and present—from the imperial tsars and Soviet leaders to today’s geopolitical landscape.
With over a quarter of the world’s scientific literature published in Russian and rising demand in fields like international business, diplomacy, intelligence, cybersecurity, and nonprofit work, Russian fluency gives you a competitive edge. Career paths may include roles in the State Department, Commerce, Justice, and intelligence agencies, or positions with global firms and NGOs working in or with Russia.
