Understand Social Forces
Sociology is the study of human groups. Sociologists seek to understand the forces that influence human behavior, social change, and social problems. You’ll examine and question the dominant relationships, processes, and structures of social life. This major easily pairs with minors in Applied Sociological Research, Criminology, or Gerontology.
Curriculum and Courses
Several options exist for the sociology student at Miami. The basic major in sociology emphasizes exposure to a wide range of topics rather than a specialized area of concentration. Students in this program usually seek employment in government or business. Some go on to graduate school in sociology or a related discipline.
At Miami, there’s something for everyone.
I decided to take an introductory sociology class through the Miami Plan and I immediately thought ‘wow, I want to do this.’ I’d never thought about life in the way sociology makes you consider it.
