The Data Analytics, B.A. at Miami University prepares students to turn data into insight using statistics, programming, and real-world applications. You’ll learn how to analyze large, complex, and unstructured data sets to uncover patterns, answer questions, and support data-driven decision-making in business, policy, science, and research.
This interdisciplinary degree combines statistical analysis, coding and computational skills, and domain-specific expertise, giving you a strong foundation for careers in data science, analytics, research, and technology or for graduate study.
Graduates of the Data Analytics bachelor’s degree develop in-demand skills in data analysis, statistical modeling, programming, and applied research, preparing them for a wide range of careers in today’s data-driven world.
Curriculum and Courses
Miami University’s Data Analytics major features a strong core curriculum of introductory and intermediate courses in statistics, computer programming, mathematics, ethics, and professional communication, building essential skills for data-driven careers across industries. Students also complete a six-course advanced concentration in a chosen area of application, gaining deep disciplinary insight and learning how data analysis tools uncover patterns, structure, and actionable insights. Courses in the curriculum include:
- CSE 174 Fundamentals of Problem Solving and Programming
- MTH 252 Calculus III (Calculus I and II are prerequisites)
- STA 401 Probability
- CSE 271 Object-Oriented Programming
- STA 466 Experimental Design Methods

- Correctly manage data for analytics applications using statistical programming.
- Analyze and interpret data critically using statistical models and constructed statistical output.
