Understanding the Religious Beliefs and Practices of the World
If you’re curious about the world and interested in understanding diverse perspectives, the Comparative Religion minor at Miami University offers a meaningful and engaging academic experience. This minor invites students to explore religious beliefs and practices across cultures, examining how people around the world make sense of life, meaning, and community. Grounded in Miami’s strong liberal arts tradition, the Religion, Comparative minor encourages critical thinking, global awareness, and thoughtful dialogue—skills that complement any major. The minor requires 18 semester hours and is ideal for students preparing for careers or further study in fields such as education, law, international affairs, healthcare, and public service.
Eligibility
A minimum 2.0 GPA is required for all courses in this minor. Courses must be taken for a grade (not credit/no-credit). Students planning to take this minor should consult with the chief departmental adviser.
Courses and Curriculum
The Comparative Religion minor has a flexible curriculum with one required course (REL 201 – Methods for the Study of Religion.) The remaining 15 hours must include at least nine at the 300 level or above.
